Liverpool’s impressive 7-0 win at Crystal Palace was like watching Manchester United in their pomp, talkSPORT was told.

The Premier League champions bombarded the Eagles when they scored seven goals at Selhurst Park: Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah had two goals, while Takumi Minamino, Sadio Mane and Jordan Henderson also scored.

It closed out an excellent week for Liverpool as they extended their lead at the top of the table, with Dean Ashton telling talkSPORT that the result sends a message to the rest of the division.

But talkSPORT host and Liverpool fan Tony Cascarino suggested that Jurgen Klopp’s team’s performance was unforgettable and one that Sir Alex Ferguson would have been proud of had his Man United team produced it.

As he became lyrical about Liverpool, he shed fascinating insight into how difficult it was to play Man United in Fergie’s early days in the late 1980s and early 1990s.

Cascarino added that teams playing Liverpool this season will experience the same difficulties that he experienced when he played the rampant Red Devils.

“They are champions and they are a very, very exciting team and you could say there is a love for Liverpool,” he told the Weekend Sports Breakfast.

“I think they have shown in recent years with Klopp what brilliant style they have. They are prepared to be brave.

“When I played Manchester United, I’m talking about the late 80’s and early 90’s, one thing you always knew when you played against them was how brave their style was.

“They came from everywhere, they were adventurers, they fought, they made it difficult for you and that’s what Liverpool does.

“They have no respect for where they are playing with you, they will come to your own backyard and play you off the field, they will leave you behind, they will beat you. I can remember that Man United was that week after week.

“You knew they wouldn’t give you anything. I played two times at Old Trafford and they beat me 4-0 and 5-1 and I barely got a kick in the game and that’s exactly what it will be for some of those teams playing Liverpool. They don’t give you a chance. “
