NILAI (Bernama): Barisan Nasional should be open to accepting any party that wishes to join the coalition, says its vice president Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan.

However, he said that a consensus will be reached among the four parties that comprise it, Umno, MIC, MCA and Parti Bersatu Rakyat Sabah (PBRS), before approval can be given.

“We must be inclusive and not exclusive. So if you ask me for my personal opinion, the more parties under the Barisan umbrella the better because each has its own strengths and, combined, will provide additional synergy.

“This is what we have to do for Barisan to build new forces because we lost in the 14th General Election (GE14).

“Regardless of what Barisan stands for and our policies, there must be a review so that our two directions, which are strengthening the coalition and strategies to win GE15, can be realized,” he told reporters after opening Parti Makkal Sakti Malaysia (Makkal Sakti). 12th annual general meeting, also attended by its chairman Datuk Seri RS Thanenthiran, here on Sunday (December 27).

Commenting on Thanenthiran’s request that the party compete on Barisan’s ballot in three parliamentary and seven state seats in GE15, Mohamad, who is also vice president of Umno, said that it should be considered as Makkal Sakti has been a loyal friend of Barisan. during good and hard times, although its status was not that of a component party.

“Makkal Sakti is a partner of Barisan and not a component party, but it should be noted because Makkal Sakti has helped Barisan for a long time when it was the government and even when it was not.

“I am confident that the highest Barisan leadership council can consider this request from Makkal Sakti.

“There are other partners who have stated the same, and I am of the opinion that the more parties with Barisan, the more inclusive it will be, but I leave it to the wisdom of our senior leadership … it should be considered,” he said.

Earlier in his speech, Thanenthiran had asked Barisan to give Makkal Sakti a chance to contest seats in GE15.

“This is our hope and we are ready. If not GE15, when? he said.

The AGM which was attended by 753 delegates adopted three resolutions which were that Makkal Sakti becomes a component party of Barisan, competing under Barisan in GE15, and the third one on the welfare of the Indian community in Sabah. – Bernama
