Three Senior JKKK Officials in Serian Arrested in MRP Abuse Investigation

KUCHING (October 7): The chairman, treasurer and secretary of a village security and development committee (JKKK) in the Serbian division have been sent to pre-trial detention for two days to facilitate an investigation into the alleged abuse of the fund. of minor rural projects (MRP).

The suspects, aged 57, 57 and 27 respectively, had allegedly used RM 50,000 from their village MRP fund as a deposit for an installment loan for a five-ton truck for themselves.

The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) had arrested the suspects in their office here after recording their statements around 5.45pm yesterday.

Magistrate Zaiton Anuar approved this morning MACC’s request for a preventive detention order for the suspects.

The trio are suspected of committing the crime between 2018 and 2019 and had used their JKKK account.

MACC is investigating the case under Section 23 of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission Act 2009 for abuse of power.

He carries a prison term of up to 20 years and a fine of RM10,000 or five times the bonus value, whichever is greater, upon conviction.

All three suspects were represented by defense attorney Francis Wee.
