JOHOR BARU: Police arrested three men, including an Indonesian, for alleged drug trafficking and seized around 30 kg of syabu worth RM1.4 thousand disguised as Chinese tea in Kota Tinggi.
Two of the suspects were arrested while waiting for a boat in Pantai Batu Layar during a police raid at 7.15pm on Sunday (December 6) and another took place on Monday (December 7) around 2.30am in Bandar Penawar. said the Johor police chief. Comm Datuk Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay.
“The two were waiting in a car, which was inspected and found to have three plastic drums containing drugs in Chinese tea containers.
“A follow-up arrest was made the next day,” he said.
The suspects are between 33 and 46 years old and a total of 31.25 kg of syabu worth RM 1.4 million were seized, it added.
“We believe they are part of a drug syndicate that is active in Indonesia as the drugs were scheduled to be transported there by boat,” he told a news conference at the Johor police contingent headquarters here on Tuesday ( December 8).
Comm Ayob revealed that the group had hidden the drugs in plastic drums to avoid inspection prior to their destination in Indonesia.
“The plastic cans are generally used to store gasoline for the ship, so the trio, who acted as the union runners, thought they could get away with making a hole under the cans and keeping the drugs inside.” said.
The group, he said, had wanted to deliver the drugs in March and April, but was unable to carry out its plan due to the motion control order.
He said police are also not ruling out the possibility of the group’s ties to other drug syndicates in Johor.
The police also seized a Honda Civic worth RM40,000.
Comm Ayob said urinalysis on the suspects revealed that two of them tested positive for methamphetamine and two of them have criminal records.
All three were sent to pretrial detention Dec. 7-13 to assist in the investigation under Section 39B and Section 15 (1) (a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act of 1952 for drug trafficking and use.
