KUALA LUMPUR: Three men were arrested on Friday in connection with a RM1.6 million heist involving a cryptocurrency company in Kepong on October 8.

Following the arrest of the suspects, aged between 31 and 42, the police recovered RM1.03 million from the loot.

Kuala Lumpur Police Chief Commissioner Datuk Saiful Azly Kamaruddin said yesterday that investigations revealed that the suspects had observed the movements of an employee of the cryptocurrency company for about five days before carrying out the robbery in a parking lot in a shopping center in Kepong.

The staff, who carried the cash wrapped in a black plastic bag, were assaulted before the suspects took the loot.

Saiful said that upon recovering the cash and an undisclosed amount of gemstones from the suspects, police learned that they had spent some of the cash, including a full car payment.

In another case, Saiful said the motive for the murder of a 36-year-old Nigerian student, who was found dead in his rented apartment in Jalan Kuching on September 23, is believed to be related to a love triangle.

He said that two weeks after his death, the police caught the victim’s 34-year-old housemate, who is also a Nigerian student, and solved the case. The victim and the suspect had a fist fight over a local woman in her 30s.

Police detained the woman shortly after the victim’s housemate was arrested and she was released on bail at the end of the investigations.

Saiful said the victim’s housemate was charged with murder last week.
