GEORGE TOWN: MIC Chairman S Vigneswaran today criticized Kedah menteri kissing for saying the party should be banned if it incites people to break the law, due to the issue of a temple demolition and lack of funding for non-Muslim places of worship in the state.
Yesterday, Menteri Besar Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor, commenting on the MIC questioning the city council’s demolition of a Hindu temple in Kuala Kedah, said the party was simply trying to gain popularity by inciting others to go against the law over built sites. illegally in worship in the state.
Vigneswaran said: “This is what happens when you choose an ignorant man to be the MB. We have the right to ask why freedom of worship is enshrined in the Federal Constitution.
“If defending the rights of our community can be seen as an instigation, then the PAS should be banned, judging by the number of demonstrations they have held on international issues and the claims that some of them are linked to terrorists.
“PAS is showing its true colors and it is no wonder that the DAP could not work with them due to their arrogance.
“Go ahead, try to ban us and you’ll see. But if he (Sanusi) fails to ban us, then he should resign as MB, ”he said when contacted.
Vigneswaran said that the issue raised by the MIC about the demolition of the temple should have been dealt with in a civilized way, rather than Sanusi launching a tirade against the party.
“This is what you get when immature people become MB. Do you remember that the president of your party previously promised not to demolish any temple? I ask.
Vigneswaran said PAS should realize it was a “nobody” six months ago, before the formation of Perikatan Nasional.
On the other hand, P Ramasamy of the DAP said that Sanusi’s reaction to a simple question about the demolished temple showed that the PAS-led government was interested in causing misery among non-Muslims in Kedah.
He said it was wrong to say that any group or party, in this case the MIC, was inciting people to break the law or gain popularity when they only demanded just rights for ethnic Indian citizens.
“This is simply the wild and careless imagination of Sanusi, who has proven himself an ineffective leader in Kedah.
“The Indians are upset and angry simply because more temples have been demolished in the state compared to the previous BN and later PH governments.
“If the authorities can demolish temples, some of them over hundreds of years old, do you expect the Indians to turn the proverbial other cheek? Sorry, Indians are not the reincarnation of Gandhi. “
FMT has contacted MB and his office for comment.
