PUTRAJAYA: Putrajaya is slated to obtain a third mosque, as the population in the area is expected to increase from 120,000 to 300,000 in five years, Federal Territories Minister Annuar Musa said.
He said that Precinct 14 had been identified as the site of the third mosque and that it could be built on the “Al-Quran” concept.
Putrajaya currently houses two mosques: Tuanku Mizan Zainal Abidin Mosque and Putra Mosque.
“We are also considering building a Koran Village on the same site in an attempt to enhance Islamic culture and Koranic knowledge, especially among foreign tourists,” he said.
The ministry was also trying to encourage more people, not just public officials, to buy property in Putrajaya, which is the federal administrative capital.
Anwar spoke after launching a special edition of the Koran in an easy-to-understand Malay translation called Al Quran Al-Karim Mushaf Putrajaya, along with the Putrajaya 2020 Silver Jubilee celebrations and the Nuzul Al-Quran 1441H celebrations.
Annuar said that the publication of al-Quran with its own identity was a joint effort of the Putrajaya Corporation, Restu Foundation and Nasyrul Quran Putrajaya with the support of the ministry.
The goal is to print 25,000 copies to distribute to all mosques, schools and libraries around Putrajaya and with early printing of 5,000 copies, ”he said.
The total cost of the entire project was RM2 million, with RM1 million coming from the ministry and the rest being contributions from various parties.
