Thiago reveals that Fernando Torres told him not to touch the ‘This is Anfield’ poster in Liverpool

Thiago hasn’t even been a Liverpool player for a week, but he’s already a fan favorite.

The Reds rarely hire ready-made world-class players, but they have certainly done so in the form of the 29-year-old midfielder.

And he showed his quality during his 45-minute debut against Chelsea on Sunday.

Thiago entered the break and helped his team win 2-0 thanks to Sadio Mane’s double.

But the new signing certainly contributed, as he successfully played 75 passes, the most of any player in Premier League history to play a maximum of 45 minutes.

It’s early, but Thiago could offer Liverpool something special. That pinch of creativity and those incisive passing that today’s midfielders can’t currently deliver.

But it’s not just his performances on the pitch that Liverpool fans love.

After his signing was officially announced, Thiago’s new song quickly went viral, a remix of ‘Cuba’ by the Gibson Brothers.

During their ad video, the Liverpool media team showed Thiago the song and he loved it.

“It’s crazy,” he said. “How people can be so creative is amazing.”

When asked if he liked it, Thiago replied, “I love it. Love it. It also gives me positive vibes. “

On Tuesday night, Liverpool’s official channels launched the #ThiagoFriday vlog.

It details the day from start to finish when Thiago arrives at Anfield and does the traditional photo shoots and ad video.

However, there was a part that Liverpool fans saw during the video.

Thiago is standing in the tunnel and sees the famous ‘This Is Anfield’ sign.

He then revealed how a former player had told him not to touch him until he won a trophy.

“Fernando Torres told me not to touch the ‘This is Anfield’ sign until I win some trophies at the club, so I will respect that,” Thiago said. “To touch this sign you have to deserve it and earn it.”

It’s a tradition that current boss Jurgen Klopp implemented when he first took office.

“I’ve told my players not to touch the ‘This is Anfield’ sign until they win something. It’s a sign of respect,” he said.

After winning the Champions League in 2019 and the Premier League last season, the current team can touch the bill before every game these days.

But Liverpool fans loved to hear that Thiago was sticking to the tradition he heard from Torres. See the best reaction on social media:

Unfortunately for Torres, he was never able to touch that sign while pursuing his Liverpool career without trophies. However, fans are hoping that, next season, Thiago will be able to do it.
