KUALA LUMPUR, October 14 – KTM (Keretapi Tanah Melayu) is turning to technology to help slow the spread of Covid-19. The company announced on social media that it began equipping members of the auxiliary police who patrol its station and trains with new temperature-scanning helmets.

The train service provider said the helmets will help service officials detect and identify passengers who may exhibit symptoms such as high body temperature. According to KTM, the helmets are still undergoing pilot tests to assess their effectiveness. He hopes the initiative will increase the confidence of commuters when using the train.

KTM said it is still carrying out existing procedures, such as temperature checks at stations, as well as providing hand sanitizers for the comfort of passengers. It also performs frequent repairs to its trains.

Currently, Selangor, Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya are under the Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO) from October 14 to October 27, 2020. Public transportation services, including train services, continue to operate during the CMCO period. Members of the public are advised to wash their hands frequently, distance themselves socially, and wear a mask.
