There are no parking fees in Penang as the PSP system is still not working

GEORGE TOWN: No parking fees will be imposed until Penang’s Smart Parking System (PSP) is back up and running without fail, says chairman of the state local government committee, Jagdeep Singh Deo.

He said that the PSP system that was disconnected on Tuesday (September 1) was supposed to be running at 11am on Wednesday (September 2).

However, he said he was told it was still unstable.

“The Penang Island City Council (MBPP) is monitoring the situation to ensure that the technical problem is rectified,” Jagdeep told a press conference in Komtar on Wednesday (September 2).

“As such, no parking fees have been charged since the system went down yesterday.

The status quo remains for now, and if it is not repaired later today, the operator will issue another statement, “he added.

On the monetary loss suffered, the chief minister, Chow Kon Yeow, said it was still too early to determine.

“We will have a clear picture when the system works again,” said Chow, who was also at the same press conference.

Motorists took to Facebook after failing to log into their PSP account. PSP operators Heitech Padu clarified on their Facebook later that there was a technical problem with the service and that it was being repaired.
