PETALING JAYA: The fight for seats in the 15th general election among the members of the Perikatan Nasional component has intensified with the youth and women’s wings of the PPBM establishing their own quotas within the party today.
His Youth Chief, Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Ahmad, wants 20% of the candidates for the federal and state seats to come from his movement.
In addition, he has requested the same endowment for the appointment of senators and municipal councilors.
The PPBM’s women’s wing, for its part, wants 30% of the seats that the party will contest in GE15 to be handed over to its candidates.
Their boss, Rina Harun, said these candidates should be located in winning electoral districts, rather than any seat.
Explaining the youth wing’s demand, Wan Fayhsal said that 20% was not much.
“We need to do this to convince students and young professionals to join us.
“Our movement needs to reorganize itself to attract the country’s students under the PPBM umbrella,” he said.
This was one of the five central proposals that he made today in his political speech at the third annual general assembly of PPBM. He posted it on PPBM’s Facebook.
Rina, who also posted her political speech at the women’s assembly on her Facebook, said it was time for women to play a bigger role.
Rina, who is also the minister for women, family and community development, called on all female members to continue to empower and prepare to be future elected representatives.
He said the wing would hold leadership courses.
Look at how many female PPBM members are elected representatives now. How many ministers and vice ministers are there?
“That is why we must train ourselves to be effective leaders at all levels of society.”
Rina said the wing currently has 200,000 members, adding that this must be increased to strengthen the movement.
