PETALING JAYA: Former Prime Minister Najib Razak says that the new RM15 billion Permai stimulus package announced today has not met expectations and that most of the initiatives had already been announced previously.
He said the Permai special aid package did not specifically address the implementation of the current motion control order and the imposition of a state of emergency.
“Most of the initiatives are already in the 2021 budget,” he said in a Facebook post reviewing the stimulus package announced today by Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin.
He also criticized the government for not announcing an automatic extension of the credit moratorium. However, he welcomed improvements to the i-Sinar Employee Provident Fund scheme.
“There are some improvements in the EPF i-Sinar category 2, although it is not automatic and there are still conditions for withdrawals from account 1 up to RM10,000”,
Muhyiddin had said that the three main goals of the package, known as Permai, were to fight the Covid-19 pandemic, protect people’s well-being and support businesses.
He said that banks will continue to offer a moratorium and a reduction in loan repayment installments, although he did not specify if there will be a new extension.
