KUALA LUMPUR: At least 93 karaoke patrons in a Jalan Ampang shopping center were detained after a raid by Wangsa Maju’s CID agents.

The karaoke center has a large hall-like room. For RM 50,000 a night, the room is complete with alcoholic beverages and a DJ.

The store has been operating illegally after its business license expired in July.

A team led by Wangsa Maju’s CID Operational Intelligence Officer, Insp Abdul Hafiz Ab Hakim, raided the facilities at 11 pm Saturday with personnel from the Kuala Lumpur Serious Crimes Division (D9). received information about entertainment activities on the premises on weekends while the conditional motion control order was still in effect.

“Among those arrested were 66 Malaysians and 26 foreigners.

“The center’s license expired after the government banned any entertainment activities during the conditional MCO,” he said when contacted yesterday.

“Operators devise ways to avoid detection, including ensuring that customers do not park near the store or encouraging customers to use the electronic calling service,” said SAC Nik Ros Azhan.
