KUALA LUMPUR: The issue of illegal meat cartels will be debated in the Dewan Negara in accordance with Rule 17 (1) and the proponent will debate the issue for no more than 30 minutes and the same time will be given to the government to respond, Dewan said. Deny. President Tan Sri Dr. Rais Yatim.

For the matter to be considered by the Senate, he said, as chairman of Dewan Negara, you must be satisfied that the matter raised meets three conditions, namely that it is specific, of public interest and urgent.

“I have studied the matter. First of all, you are right, the issue is specific, secondly, it is in the public interest and needs urgent action, as well as people’s supervision and understanding.

“Therefore, I allow this motion to be debated,” he added.

Earlier, Senator Asmak Husin proposed a motion on an illegal meat cartel for misusing the Malaysian Islamic Development Department (Jakim) logo with the intent to deceive according to Article 17 of the Senate Rules.

“I think this motion involves the public interest because it is a source of protein for Muslims, who are the majority of Malaysian citizens. For the Muslim community, halal, haram and shubhah food can influence their religious faith, physical development, and life.

“It also involves the good name of the government, especially Jakim, as issuer of the halal logo, which is why the products were believed to be halal, not only by Malaysians but by the international community,” he said.

Asmak said that people are also scared and angry about the case because to this day, some brands that they still use are said to be involved in this case.

The investigation into the matter has been going on for about a month and people want the government to provide the list of the brands involved or at least the result of the preliminary report, he added. – Called
