KUALA LUMPUR: DAP Secretary General Lim Guan Eng said today that it was shocking that Dewan Rakyat speaker Azhar Harun had threatened to call the police if Kepong MP Lim Lip Eng refused to leave the lounge as ordered.
He also said Lip Eng’s expulsion and five-day suspension for calling a decision by Vice President Azalina Othman Said “stupid” was too harsh and could have been treated differently.
Lip Eng had criticized Azalina for not asking Tiong King Sing (GPS-Bintulu) to retract her comment that the chief health officer, Dr. Noor Hisham Abdullah, was “afraid of dying.”
Guan Eng (PH-Bagan) said that Azhar’s actions had “stained the august house” when the matter could have been resolved by other means.
“While Lip Eng has accepted the five-day suspension order, it is too harsh and should not have happened.
“We support your call for the speaker’s decision to be studied (attached), as she had been wrong to allow the Bintulu deputy to defame and insult (Noor) Hisham in her efforts to curb and control the spread of Covid- 19, “he told reporters in the lobby of Parliament.
Guan Eng said that Jelutong MP RSN Rayer will table a motion to demand that Bintulu MP Tiong King Sing withdraw his comment.
“We hope that the government will condemn Bintulu’s statement, as he is a special ambassador to China with the rank of minister.
“Tiong’s comment cannot be accepted as it insults medical workers and those on the front line. We condemn your comment, ”he said.
Lip Eng, who was with Guan Eng, said that his position on Azalina remained the same, as Tiong’s comment was unacceptable and should be censored.
After Azhar ordered Lip Eng to leave the apartment, he threatened to call the police to escort him if he refused to budge.
