KUALA LUMPUR: The road leading to the helicopter crash site in Taman Melawati has been closed to the public.
Traffic police were seen blocking the area just after 1pm on Sunday (November 8), while pulling passersby from Jalan Melawati 5.
A crowd gathered just outside, trying to catch a glimpse of the crashed helicopters.
“It was by chance that I was shopping for food and I saw the red helicopter land on a school field. Shortly after that, the black helicopter landed to help as well.
“I was so lucky that none of it hit the houses because it is a very populated area and it landed very close to it. In fact, I didn’t expect there to be any deaths, ”said one resident who did not want to be named.
Another resident said that while they did not hear loud noises, their children reported it.
“It’s definitely a shock that it happens here,” he said.
A helicopter crashed in Taman Melawati after being involved in a mid-air collision on Sunday.
Transport Minister Datuk Seri, Dr. Wee Ka Siong, said that the technical investigation, based on Annex 13 – Aviation Accident and Incident Investigation, International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO Annex 13) – has been initiated by the Air Accident Investigation Office (AAIB).
In Sunday’s incident, two men were killed after a helicopter crashed after being involved in a mid-air collision.
The two men killed were Mohamed Sabri Baharom, 56, and Mohd Irfan Fikri Mohamed Rawi, 44.
Both helicopters are believed to have left Subang Airport at 11.11am. M. And one crashed at 11.33 a.m. M., 22 minutes of flight. The collision occurred at an altitude of 396 m (1,300 ft).
Dr Wee said that the Kuala Lumpur Aeronautical Rescue Coordination Center (KL ARCC) had been activated to provide all necessary rescue coordination efforts.
