KUCHING (10 November): Parti Sarawak Bersatu (PSB), a state opposition party, does not rule out the possibility of collaborating with the DAP in the twelfth state election, which could be called in the short term.

PSB Chairman Datuk Seri Wong Soon Koh said today that the party would be willing to work together with other parties that share their struggle to help the people in the state.

“As far as we are concerned, we work with like-minded people, sharing the same vision and mission. If it’s good for the people of Sarawak, why not? he said at a press conference during a recess in the Sarawak State Assembly sitting here.

Wong, the Bawang Assan state assemblyman, was the state’s second finance minister before resigning from the government of Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) last year.

Three other assemblymen who joined him at PSB are Datuk Ranum Mina (Opar), Johnical Rayong (Engkelili) and Baru Bian (Ba ‘Kelalan), who is also a member of Parliament from Selangau. Sri Aman’s MP Masir Kujat also joined the party.

DAP Sarawak Chairman Chong Chieng Jen, who accompanied Wong at the press conference, said that DAP could work together with PSB, as evident today when they objected to an amendment to Article 16 of the Sarawak State Constitution.

The draft bill for the amendment, however, was postponed by President Datuk Amar Mohd Asfia Awang Nassar at the end of the debate, citing anomalies in the bill and the need to clarify certain definitions.

“We, from DAP and PSB, have expressed our strongest objection to the presentation of the bill this morning on the mere fact that DUN (the State Assembly) is the last bastion of rights and privileges in Sarawak,” he said. Chong. – Bernama
