The priority list for vaccination must meet two criteria, says KJ

PUTRAJAYA: Two things are taken into account when deciding on the Covid-19 vaccination priority list, says Khairy Jamaluddin.

The Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation said that when drawing up the list, the special committee will analyze the probability that a person can transmit the virus or if they are likely to contract the disease.

“These are two important things when deciding on the priority list.

“It is not based on whether you are a politician (which would mean then) that you should get it first or last.

“We decide how likely you are to develop Covid-19 if you are infected, and if you are likely to suffer from it, including possible death,” he said on Wednesday (December 23).

Khairy was asked if he would take the vaccine with Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, who said he was ready to be part of the first batch to receive the Covid-19 vaccine inoculation in a move to assure people of their safety.

The minister explained that due to risk assessments, countries were prioritizing the vaccine to be administered to older people, as the data showed that they were vulnerable to the worst effects of Covid-19.

Khairy said that another group to prioritize were front-line workers, as they would likely become infected and then spread the disease.

“In the same way, politicians will be evaluated on that basis: the probability that the public figure can be infected or infect others, the frequency with which he meets the public and is in public spaces.

“If you ask me today, I will argue that all of you, the media are also a priority,” he said.
