PETALING JAYA: The Prime Minister is considering giving Opposition members the opportunity to sit in the weekly meeting of the Economic Action Council (EAC).
During an interview with Agenda Awani on Saturday (November 7), Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said that he was also open to suggestions from the Opposition because a more inclusive approach would be beneficial to all.
“In drafting the 2021 Budget, Finance Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz and his team engaged with thousands of groups, including those aligned with the Opposition, and received many memoranda that included proposals to be included in the budget,” he said. , adding that they wanted to practice inclusion.
He also said that they want to be considered customer-friendly and be prepared to listen to any suggestions.
“If they are good, we will adjust and adopt them,” he said.
Muhyiddin said he would also like to extend the opportunity for Opposition members to sit at the EAC meeting that he chairs each week to present their suggestions, and even at the Covid-19 mitigation meeting that he chairs every day.
“I would like to hear from them and if they feel that our measures are ineffective, I appreciate their proposals to make them more effective.”
“It’s not about who gets the credit, but how people can benefit from your opinions.
“I think this is the approach for the future,” he said, adding that it was not a question of politics, but of mitigating the pandemic and reviving the economy.
Muhyiddin also said that the government will spare no expense to help people, even if it means borrowing more funds to do so.
He said these initiatives were intended to be a starting point to prop up the economy.
“We hope this will lead to more vibrant results in the years to come.
“We don’t expect people to be forever dependent on government help, but in difficult situations like this, we must move forward and help people, even if it means we need to borrow more funds,” he said.
He added that the government had taken the first steps to help sectors such as small and medium-sized enterprises, including micro-enterprises, of which a large group of bumiputeras were part, to continue so that the people who depend on them for income do not fall far below the social safety net.
“The government had to enter the economic recovery first so that businesses could continue and ensure that unemployment rates remain low.
“At this point, we need to make sure that people keep their jobs so that economic activities can be generated,” he said, adding that when people have income, they can spend and this, in turn, will stimulate trade and retail transactions. and commercial.
He said that if they don’t start somewhere, there will be unemployment and there will be no business activities that can lead to further losses.
