PETALING JAYA: The PKR headquarters in Merchant Square here is abuzz with activity as the members of the Pakatan Harapan presidential council will meet on Thursday (October 29) ahead of the November 2 Parliament meeting on Monday.

The meeting, which began at 4 p.m., attracted dozens of curious members of the media, who gathered at 3 p.m.

Pakatan leaders in attendance were opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim (Photo), Parti Amanah Negara President Mohamad Sabu, Khalid Abdul Samad, DAP Secretary General Lim Guan Eng, Lim Kit Siang, Gobind Singh Deo and others.

Mohamad previously said on October 28 that the meeting was to discuss the Opposition’s decision on whether or not to endorse Budget 2021, which will be presented next Friday (November 6).

Party sources also said the meeting was to deliberate on the Opposition’s plans at the next Parliament meeting, which will take place from November 2 to December 15.

The 2021 budget, which will be presented on November 6, will see debates at the policy stage for almost two weeks and three days of ministerial responses, followed by voting on November 23.

The government had previously sought to declare a state of emergency after a special cabinet had considered, among other things, possible scenarios should the budget be defeated by the opposition.

However, the King then decided not to declare a state of emergency, while reminding politicians to stop all forms of politicking that could disrupt the stability of the country amid the Covid-19 pandemic.

The King also reiterated on Wednesday (October 28) that all parliamentarians, regardless of their political leanings, should stop fighting and give full support to the 2021 Budget for the livelihood of the people and to help the recovery of the economy hit by Covid-19.
