The owner of the Sibu cafeteria issued a compound for having a broken thermal scanner and an empty bottle of hand sanitizer

SIBU: A cafe owner was among eight people fined RM1,000 each for violating the recovery MCO on Friday night (November 20).

Sibu OCPD Asst Comm Stanley Jonathan Ringgit (pictured) said action was taken against the cafe owner in Jalan Wawasan for providing a malfunctioning thermal scanner and an empty bottle of hand sanitizer.

Six customers, four men and two women, at another cafe in Jalan Sena were also penalized for sitting together at a table.

“A cafe worker was also aggravated by not wearing a mask,” he added.

All eight were fined by an integrated MCO recovery enforcement team comprised of 31 police officers, including three senior police officers, with the help of 10 members of Rela, the Armed Forces and the Sibu City Council.

The operation around the city from 6.30 pm to midnight was led by the deputy head of the Sibu Department of Crime Prevention and Community Policing, Ariffin Bahar.

During the operation, a total of 16 citations were also issued to motorists for various traffic violations.

“Two young men, aged 15, were fined for doing dangerous stunts with Jalan Permai. Their motorcycles were seized,” he added.

ACP Stanley said the other 14 citations were issued to motorists for not having a driver’s license (four), not wearing a helmet (four), not having a side mirror (two), expired road tax (one) and modified exhaust pipe ( one).
