SERDANG (Bernama): The one-time payment of RM500 to 140,000 health professionals will start on March 1, says Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr. Adham Baba.

He said eligible staff can begin requesting payment starting this month.

“This one-time assistance is in addition to the special Covid-19 allowance of 600 RM per month for the former, which has been paid since March last year.

“This assistance is for front-line personnel who are directly involved in managing duties related to Covid-19 “, he said after visiting Putra University Malaysia (UPM) Teaching Hospital here on Thursday (Feb 11).

Also present were the Secretary General of the Ministry of Health, Datuk Mohd Shafiq Abdullah, and the Deputy Vice Chancellor of the UPM (Industry and Community Network) Teaching Hospital, Prof Ir Dr BT Hang Tuah Baharudin.

Dr. Adham said that the secretary general of the ministry will issue a circular to explain the implementation of the one-time payment.

“It is hoped that this payment can motivate front-line personnel to continue their fight against the Covid-19 pandemic,” he said.

On January 18, during the special announcement on the Permai assistance package, Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin announced a one-time payment of 500 ringgit to front-lines, to be paid in the first quarter of the year.

Meanwhile, Dr. Adham said that UPM University Hospital is an institution under the Ministry of Higher Education that has been selected as one of the Covid-19 vaccination centers for the Covid-19 immunization program, which will begin on 26th of February.

Dr Adham said that each selected Covid-19 vaccination center must make preparations according to established standards.

Seven staff members, including medical officers and nurses, would be stationed at each facility, and 210 recipients are expected to receive the vaccine daily, it added. – Bernama
