The Ministry of Transport will investigate the helicopter accident, the initial report is expected within 30 days

PETALING JAYA: The Ministry of Transport will investigate the helicopter crash in Taman Melawati on Sunday (Nov 8), and an initial investigation report will be prepared within 30 days.

Transport Minister Datuk Seri, Dr. Wee Ka Siong, said that the technical investigation, based on Annex 13 – Aviation Accident and Incident Investigation, International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO Annex 13) – has been initiated by the Air Accident Investigation Office (AAIB).

“The main objective of the investigation is to determine the circumstances and the cause of the accident in order to safeguard lives and prevent future accidents. In this sense, the investigation that will be initiated is not to attribute blame or responsibility.

“The investigation team will issue a full report of the findings, which will include recommendations to improve civil aviation safety once the entire investigation is complete.

“The government will use these findings as the basis for forming future recommendations for holistic improvements in the country’s civil aviation industry,” Dr. Wee said in a statement Sunday.

In Sunday’s incident, two men were killed after a helicopter crashed after being involved in a mid-air collision.

The two men killed were Mohamed Sabri Baharom, 56, and Mohd Irfan Fikri Mohamed Rawi, 44.

Both helicopters are believed to have left Subang Airport at 11.11am. M. And one crashed at 11.33 a.m. M., 22 minutes of flight. The collision occurred at an altitude of 396 m (1,300 ft).

Dr Wee said that the Kuala Lumpur Aeronautical Rescue Coordination Center (KL ARCC) had been activated to provide all necessary rescue coordination efforts.
