PUTRAJAYA: The Ministry of Health (MoH) has recommended that no elections be held for the time being, said its director general Tan Sri Dr. Noor Hisham Abdullah.

However, he said, if the election could not be avoided, following the Federal Constitution, a discussion would be held with the Electoral Commission (EC) to find different means of carrying out the election.

“(First of all), no cross-border and district (travel), and no ‘balik kampung’ for elections. Second, there are no (mass) gatherings, and third, there are no house-to-house visits. These are the three main issues that we should discuss with the EC, and whether we can implement the use of vote by mail, etc. We can continue discussing with the EC to improve the situation.

“With regard to the Ministry of Health, we only give recommendations. If it cannot be avoided, you still have to make the choice, according to the Constitution, then we have to research the SOP (standard operating procedure) on how we can carry out the choice and minimize the infection.

“Although the SOP is available, the most important thing is compliance with the SOP. I think we have seen and learned this from Sabah (choice). We hope not to have to repeat the consequences of an election in other states, ”he said at a press conference on the Covid-19 update at the ministry, here today. -Called
