PUTRAJAYA: The Ministry of Health already has four months in advance to prepare for a possible increase in Covid-19 infections due to the winter season in various parts of the world.
Chief Health Officer Dr. Noor Hisham Abdullah said that although the country’s infection rate was now under control, developments in other countries, such as India, Korea, Japan, Spain and France, where there was an increase in cases During cold weather, they should be considered.
“So our concern is that there is an increase in cases during that period and so we have to make preparations,” he told Bernama after attending the 2020 National Day celebration at Dataran Pahlawan Negara here today.
At the same time, Noor Hisham said that a mutation of the Covid-19 virus had made it more infectious and, as such, people should be on guard and strictly adhere to SOPs.
He said that as there was no proven vaccine in sight yet, the ministry would continue to implement control measures.
“Under these measures, people must comply with the SOPs while on our part we prepare in terms of laboratories, clinics and hospitals so that if there is a rebound in cases, we can control the situation,” he said.
Malaysia was able to contain the pandemic by early detection of clusters through its public health system, Noor Hisham said.
“However, we will still need strong cooperation from the people when it comes to breaking the chain of Covid-19 infections.”
