PETALING JAYA: The Ministry of Health has denied falsifying the number of daily Covid-19 cases on Saturday (October 24), which recorded 1,228 reports.
This was the first time that the number of daily cases exceeded the 1,000 mark in the country.
“There were several false messages sent on WhatsApp by irresponsible parties. The Ministry would like to emphasize that this statement is not true at all.
“Please stop spreading fake news like this. The total number of cases reported on October 24, 2020 was 1,228 cases, ”the ministry said in a Facebook post on Sunday (October 25) evening.
The message claimed that Tan Sri Health Director-General Dr. Noor Hisham Abdullah was not satisfied with Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin’s instructions to falsify the number of cases.
The message also said that the government wanted to use this to push the case to declare a state of emergency in the country, thus suspending Parliament.
“Keep a close eye on DG’s next move as he is likely to resign under pressure or (Muhyiddin) will put him out of action,” added the post, which likely originated from a site that describes itself as a ‘ social news site ‘.
The message was accompanied by a screenshot of a report on the cancellation of DG Health’s daily press conference.
Screenshots of the message were shared by Dr. Noor Hisham himself on Sunday (October 25) on his Twitter account, saying that fake news was a challenge in the battle against Covid-19.
He also said that he was unable to hold the press conference but that a statement will be issued.
“God willing, tomorrow (October 26) there will be a press conference,” he added.
Muhyiddin had requested on Friday (October 23) the proclamation of a state of emergency under Article 150 (1) and the proclamation of the Emergency Ordinance (Essential Powers 2020) in accordance with Article 150 (2B) of the Constitution.
