PUTRAJAYA: The death of a nurse in Sungai Petani, Kedah, is not related to the Covid-19 vaccine she received a week ago, confirms the Ministry of Health.

Health Director General Tan Sri Dr. Noor Hisham Abdullah said autopsy results had shown the 45-year-old nurse’s cause of death was a heart attack.

“It is not due to the vaccine,” Dr. Noor Hisham said in a text message to The Star on Thursday (March 18).

Earlier, a WhatsApp message, which had gone viral, claimed that a nurse attached to Penang Hospital was found dead in her sleep by her husband at their home in Sungai Petani at 2 a.m. on Wednesday (March 17).

The alleged police report claimed that the nurse had received an injection of Covid-19 vaccine on March 12.

He further said that the woman had suffered from slowness and breathing difficulties since then.

Dr. Noor Hisham assured the Malaysian public that Covid-19 vaccines are safe and not harmful.

“I received my second dose (of the Covid-19 vaccine) yesterday, and I could still work a full day today,” he said.

On Wednesday, Dr. Noor Hisham and Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin received their second dose of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine, 21 days after their first puncture.

They were the first two people in Malaysia to be vaccinated.

Since Covid-19 vaccines have become available in the world, it has been found to date that they are generally safe.

As of March 18, more than 390 million doses of Covid-19 vaccine had been administered worldwide.
