PETALING JAYA: The Ministry of Education has issued a set of Questions and Answers (Q&A) related to public examinations and central assessments.
These were posted on the ministry’s Facebook account on Tuesday (February 9).
Below are some pertinent questions and answers for those who participate in public examinations and assessments.
Q: Will the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM), Sijil Vokasional Malaysia (SVM), Sijil Kemahiran Malaysia (SKM), Sijil Tinggi Persekolahan Malaysia (STPM) and Sijil Tinggi Agama Malaysia (STAM) exams be conducted for 2020 candidates?
A: Yes, the exams will take place according to the established schedule.
Q: Do exam candidates need to obtain letters of permission from the police to cross districts or states to be at their test centers?
A: No. Candidates are only required to present documents confirming them as candidates for a public examination, such as the examination registration statement (pernyataan pendaftaran peperiksaan) or the candidate’s entry registration report (laporan pendaftaran kemasukan calon) if the police requests it.
Q: Do test officers need to obtain letters of permission from the police to cross districts or states to be on duty at test centers?
A: No. They only need to submit documents confirming them as examination officials issued by the Examination Syndicate, state departments of education or the Malaysian Examination Council.
Q: Are face masks and candidates and exam officers required to wear to school and during the exam period?

Q: Do school and private candidates have to declare their health status before entering the test center?
So. School and private candidates must declare their health status every day using one of the following two methods:
(i) Candidates can obtain the Covid-19 selection declaration form that is prepared by schools or the assessment and examination sector from the state department of education. Completed forms should be sent to the exam director; or
(ii) Candidates can download the Covid-19 selection declaration form from the official Examination Syndicate portal (lp.moe.gov.my) or the Malaysia Examinations Council portal (mpm.edu.my). Completed forms should be sent to the Test Director.
Q: What is the purpose of completing the Covid-19 detection declaration form each exam day?
A: The purpose of completing the form is to ensure that candidates’ information on their health status is accurate to help exam officers administer candidates in accordance with standard operating procedures (SOPs) and ensure that exams run smoothly.
Q: Can candidates with a temperature of 37.5 ° C who are present in the exam centers take the exam?
A: No.
Q: What actions should a candidate with Covid-19 symptoms take before going to the test center?
A: (i) For school candidates, they, their parents or guardians must inform the school. However, for private candidates, they, their parents, or their guardians must report to the assessment and examination sector of the respective state education department in which they enrolled.
(ii) Candidates must receive treatment in a clinic or hospital to obtain a letter or document confirming their level of health.
(iii) If it is confirmed that candidates no longer have Covid-19 symptoms and are able to sit for their exams, they are allowed to do so at the exam centers.
(iv) After receiving treatment at a clinic or hospital, and candidates arrive at the examination center no more than 30 minutes after the examination has begun, they will be allowed to sit the same day and will be given replacement time to respond your questions.
(v) If candidates arrive more than 30 minutes after the exam has started after receiving treatment at a clinic or hospital, they will not be allowed to sit the same day, but will be allowed to sit for a rescheduled exam.
(vi) Candidates with confirmed symptoms of Covid-19 should send letters / documents confirming their health status / quarantine instructions to their schools to process their appeal to appear for a rescheduled exam.
Q: Why are letters / documents confirming your health / quarantine instructions necessary?
A: They are required by the Examinations Union or Examinations Council of Malaysia as supporting documents when considering whether or not to allow a candidate to sit for a rescheduled exam.
Q: What should be done if a candidate is instructed to self-quarantine before going to the test center?
A: (i) School candidate
The candidate, parents or guardians should contact the school. Candidates are also required to stay at home, in their shelters or quarantine centers.
(ii) Private candidate
The candidate, parents or guardians should contact the assessment and examination sector of the department of education of the respective state in which they enrolled. Candidates are also required to stay at home, in their shelters or quarantine centers.
Q: What should be done if a candidate is a confirmed Covid-19 patient by the district health office or a candidate is instructed to self-quarantine and therefore cannot take the exam?
A: (i) School candidate
The candidate, parents or guardians should contact the school to send information about their quarantine along with the relevant documents.
(ii) Private candidate
The candidate, parents or guardians should contact the assessment and examination sector of the respective state department of education in which they registered to send information about their quarantine along with the relevant documents.
Q: Can a candidate who is declared positive for Covid-19 or a candidate who has instructions to self-quarantine appear for exams?
A: No.
Q: When can a candidate declared positive for Covid-19 or a candidate who is directed to self-quarantine appear for exams?
A: Candidates can only sit for the rest of the exams that are in progress after their quarantine or treatment period and confirmed to be healthy.
Q: What about tests that were not submitted during your quarantine or treatment period?
A: Candidates can sit for rescheduled exams.
Q: What should schools do if parents or guardians inform them that their child, who was at the test center, has been identified as a close contact for a Covid-19 positive patient?
A: The exam officers must separate the candidate in a special room to continue their exam. Schools must report to the district health office for further action.
