In August, 439 Malindo Air staff members received a one-year unpaid leave.

PETALING JAYA: The National Union of Flight Attendants of Malaysia (Nufam) today questioned the Minister of Human Resources, M Saravanan, for his statement that the 439 Malindo Air employees who received notices of leave without pay can assume that their contracts have been terminated.

Nufam said the statement implied that the minister was biased towards Malindo Air.

“It also made it appear as if the minister was involved in downsizing by validating the actions of the airline.

“The question here is whether a minister should make such statements on behalf of a company,” Nufam asked.

“Were there letters or notifications sent by employers to employees stating that their contracts had been terminated?”

Nufam said 439 Malindo Air employees were asked to take unpaid leave in August and Saravanan’s statement left many of them confused about their current employment situation.

Furthermore, more than 2,000 Malindo Air employees were laid off on Friday in the airline’s latest cost-cutting exercise, which, like the rest of the aviation industry, is struggling to cope with the impact of the Covid- pandemic. 19.

Addressing the layoffs in a statement today, Saravanan said that 439 airline personnel who received a notice of leave without pay for a period of one year can assume that their contracts have been terminated and therefore must submit a claim for job loss under the Employment Insurance System (EIS). for assistance.
