KUALA LUMPUR (Nov 4): The maximum price set for the Covid-19 vaccine offered to Malaysia under the Covid-19 Global Vaccine Access (COVAX) facility is $ 21 each, the Science Minister said. , Technology and Innovation Khairy Jamaluddin.
Putrajaya is in the final stages of negotiations to participate in COVAX, he said today in the Dewan Rakyat.
Khairy said the talks are being conducted by his ministry with the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Finance and the Attorney General’s Office.
He said that certain clauses of the COVAX deal needed fine tuning.
Khairy said the vaccine is expected to be available in Malaysia during the first quarter of 2021.
However, it will only be available to 3% of the population, he said, adding that the government intends to give priority to the front-line and the most vulnerable people.
The minister also said that the government has increased its allocation from RM1 billion to RM3 billion for the immunization of 70% of the population.
Khairy was responding to a question from former health minister Datuk Seri Dzulkefly Ahmad (PH-Kuala Selangor), who asked whether the number of vaccines in the country will be increased and details about Malaysia’s participation in COVAX.
