Those found guilty of violating the motion control order can be fined a maximum of RM1,000, imprisoned for up to six months or both.

KUALA LUMPUR: A man arrested for ignoring the motion control order (MCO) after posting a photo of him and his family along with “advice” on how to get around the restrictions pleaded guilty to the crime today.

Muhammad Hafiz Bashah was sentenced to a fine of RM1,000 or one month in prison if he does not pay the fine.

Appealing for a lesser sentence in Magistrates Court here today, he said he had traveled to Kelantan to bring his wife and newborn son back to Kuala Lumpur.

“My wife had just given birth and was locked up,” he said.

“As soon as I wanted to take her home, the MCO started in mid-March.”

At first, he said, the MCO was only supposed to last two weeks.

“Then it was extended for another two weeks. I was really depressed, I couldn’t see my family. From the beginning of the MCO to the third phase, I couldn’t see them. “

Hafiz also said that he needed to vaccinate his son in Kuala Lumpur.

Hafiz was found guilty of violating Regulation 3 of the 2020 Infectious Disease Prevention and Control Regulations (Measures within local infected areas), which prohibits people from leaving their homes for any activity classified as non-essential.

He traveled from Kelantan to Kuala Lumpur on April 15, but the authorities did not catch him.

He was only arrested after his photo and advice on how to get around MCO restrictions went viral.

His publication said: “Thank God I arrived safely in Kuala Lumpur taking my entire family. The advice is to take your son to the hospital. “

He said that today he had only shared the image with a closed chat group. However, someone took a screenshot and posted it on Facebook.

Today the judge was asked to give him a harsher sentence for setting a bad example for others.

However, he said in his guilty plea that he really regretted his actions.
