SIBU (Nov 30): Police arrested the main suspect who allegedly issued a death threat against a senior customs official.

Sarawak Police Deputy Commissioner Datuk Fisol Salleh, who confirmed the arrest, said the 35-year-old suspect who is unemployed was arrested today at 9.10 am after he turned himself in at the Sungai Merah Police Station here.

“We believe that the case is resolved with the arrest of the suspect. We will request pre-trial detention tomorrow and the suspect will be brought to Kuching for further investigation, ”he said today at a press conference at Sibu police headquarters.

“We will continue our investigation (to determine) if he is also involved in gangsterism and the smuggling syndicate because, according to our investigation, he had been arrested under the Crime Prevention Act (Poca) and was involved in seven other cases, including raids. of houses and criminal intimidation ”, he added.

Fisol said the suspect tested positive for amphetamine and methamphetamine when he was tested.

“We want the public to know that we are seriously analyzing these cases, as they involve death threats against law enforcement officials,” he stressed.

On November 26, the Customs officer received a brown envelope containing two real bullets and a note saying “I have two bullets, one long and one short, which one do you want” around 12 pm at his home in Jalan Matang, Kuching. .

The customs officer then filed a police report at the Gita police station which led to the arrest of three men between the ages of 35 and 39 by the D9 unit of the Sarawak Police on the same day.

Yesterday, the director general of the Royal Malaysian Customs Department, Datuk Abdul Latif Abdul Kadir, said in a statement that the threat came after the senior officer directed operations at the port of Rajang in Sibu and also at the port of Bintulu between October 21 and November 13.

It said that both operations seized more than RM2.64 million worth of property, which involved more than RM655,000 in taxes.

The case is being investigated under Section 507 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation via anonymous communication.
