PUTRAJAYA: The quarantine center at Malaysia’s Serdang Agricultural Exhibition Park (MAEPS) was reactivated following an increase in Covid-19 cases among foreign workers, says Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob (photo).

The Chief Minister said the center would house only non-citizens who are asymptomatic or exhibit minor symptoms.

He said that non-citizen patients from the training institute of the Ministry of Health in Sungai Buloh would be transferred to the quarantine center at MAEPS.

“The decision to reactivate the quarantine center is due to the increase in positive cases and the implementation of controls on foreign workers by Socso (the Social Security Organization).

“This time, the quarantine center will have 10,000 beds, based on three phases and phase one will have 3,000 beds available,” he said in his regular briefing on Wednesday (December 9).

Ismail said that since the quarantine center at MAEPS will house a large number of foreigners, the police and armed forces will be stationed there for security.

The MAEPS quarantine center was activated for the first time from April 16 to July 15 and had treated 1,362 patients, most of whom were non-citizens.
