COVID-19 | The death toll from Covid-19 has reached 130 after a new death was reported today.
There are also 20 new cases, of which 17 were locally acquired infections, including in a new group in Sabah.
The Director General of the Ministry of Health, Dr. Noor Hisham Abdullah, said in a statement that the latest death from Covid-19 was an 82-year-old Malaysian in Kedah who developed symptoms on September 4.
The elderly man, who has mobility problems, was only taken to the hospital three days later after it was determined that he was in close contact with his son and grandson, who were positive cases in Sungai’s group.
It was confirmed positive on September 9 and died yesterday at 5.45 pm.
Kedah recorded nine new infections today, including eight from the Sungai group.
Meanwhile, Sabah recorded eight new cases, including four patients detected at Tawau Hospital, three of which were referrals from Semporna Hospital.
There was also one community-screened infection in Tawau, one preoperative screening case in Keningau, and one case from each of the Benteng LD and New Bakau groups.
Bakau’s group focuses on Semporna. The index case is the Filipino woman, who passed away yesterday.
Subsequent testing revealed two other cases, including one from Malaysia. Test results for another 106 are pending.
Meanwhile, there were also 51 new recoveries today, and the total active cases now stands at 722.
