GOMBAK: The pilot Mohamed Sabri Baharon, who died in the helicopter crash in Taman Melawati, had been caring for his elderly mother for 14 years.

His younger brother, Mohd Faris, said he never complained of fatigue while caring for his mother, Intan Omar, 74.

“Naturally, he didn’t talk much, but he always updated his family on his activities.

“I also followed him frequently on his flights, the last time it was during Malaysia Day,” he said when meeting at the Radhatul Sakinah Muslim Cemetery on Monday (November 9).

Mohamed Sabri, a former naval officer, was buried in the cemetery at around 2:15 p.m. in the presence of his family and navy personnel.

Navy Chief Admiral Tan Sri Mohd Reza Mohd Sany, who attended the ceremony, said that while Mohamed Sabri may have left the navy 10 years ago, he left an eternal legacy.

“His contribution to the navy is priceless, especially in naval aviation.

“It will always be remembered and appreciated by all naval personnel and officers,” he said.

Describing the deceased pilot as his friend, Mohd Reza said that Mohamed Sabri had high standards in aviation.

“Despite leaving the navy, I was still concerned about what was happening, especially in the Naval Air Wing unit.

“He was one of the first to enter aviation,” Mohd Reza said.

Many of the late pilot’s students were also present during the funeral, he added.

Also present were the former executive director of the Malaysia Airlines Bhd group, Datuk Ahmad Jauhari Yahya, and Tan Chai Eian, who were in the other helicopter involved in the incident.

Earlier, funeral prayers for Mohamed Sabri were held at Masjid Khalid Al Walid in Jalan Padang Tembak after the body was discharged from the hospital.
