The last Covid-19 patient in Penang initially sought treatment at Lam Wah Ee Hospital

GEORGE TOWN: The new Covid-19 case recorded in Penang involved an 89-year-old patient who was detected with a severe acute respiratory infection (Sari) at Lam Wah Ee Hospital here.

The patient was initially admitted to the accident and emergency (A&E) for acute gastroenteritis on Saturday (September 5).

“Our ER triage staff discovered that the patient had Sari and immediately isolated him in the negative pressure decon room and he was immediately transferred to Penang hospital.

“There were no other patients at the time and there were eight members of the hospital staff in direct contact with the patient.

“In accordance with the guidelines of the Ministry of Health, they were closely monitored for their well-being.

“Lam Wah Ee Hospital fully complies with the strict Ministry of Health guidelines on infection control and practices preventive measures to keep patients, visitors and staff safe, and will continue to do so.

“The patient was not admitted here and the clinical services of the hospital are not affected.

“Patients can continue existing care plans at the hospital in a safe environment.

On Sunday (September 6), Health Director General Tan Sri Dr. Noor Hisham Abdullah said that six new cases of Covid-19 had been reported across the country, involving three imported cases and three local transmissions.

Of the three local broadcasts, one was recorded in Penang.
