PUTRAJAYA: The controversial home quarantine saga involving a federal minister has served as a reminder to Health Ministry leaders of the importance of adhering to standard operating procedures (SOPs), says Tan Sri Dr. Noor Hisham Abdullah.

The Director General of Health decided not to add any further comment on the matter when asked about the episode involving the Minister of Plantation Industries and Commodities, Datuk Dr. Mohd Khairuddin Aman Razali.

“Please see my answer during the question and answer session with the media on August 25.

“I still stand by what I said. They asked me the same question. I already made my comment on the subject. So now the police have investigated and the Attorney General has issued a press release.

“More importantly, (this issue) is for us, as a vanguard, to follow and comply with SOPs when executing our services to the public.

“That is the reminder for all of us when we provide our services to the public,” Dr. Noor Hisham said at the Ministry of Health’s Covid-19 press conference here.

Earlier, the Attorney General’s Office (AGC) decided that “No More Actions” (NFA) will be taken against Khairuddin for disobeying the mandatory home quarantine rule.

The Kuala Nerus MP was on a “semi-official visit” to Turkey from July 3-7, but had not gone through the 14-day quarantine required for all returning from abroad.

After the matter came to light, the Health Ministry said it had slapped Khairuddin with a fine of RM 1,000 for violating the Infectious Diseases Prevention and Control Act of 1998 (Law 342) on 7 August.

Addressing the press on the issue on August 25, Dr. Noor Hisham said that the top leadership of the Health Ministry had been “kept in the dark” about Khairuddin’s breach of quarantine.

Dr. Noor Hisham had said that he and his deputies were not briefed on the matter by ministry field staff and found out through the media.

He added that the ministry will leave the matter in the hands of the police.
