KUALA LUMPUR: Chief Health Officer Dr. Noor Hisham Abdullah has expressed concern about the recent increase in the number of Covid-19 clusters involving workplaces.

He said a total of 350 new clusters were reported between January 6 and 22, of which 225 or 64.3% were linked to workplaces.

Manufacturing-related clusters had the highest number of clusters with 80 clusters, followed by construction (53) and service-related (31), it said in a statement. A total of 28,477 people were confirmed positive for Covid-19 from the groups.

He urged all employers and their employees to work hand in hand to help the ministry contain the spread of the virus in workplaces, always adhering to stipulated procedures.

He said employers should provide conducive residential areas for their employees and make sure they always practice infection prevention measures that include temperature and symptom checks before entering their workplaces.

Employees should also avoid meeting indoors and observe physical distancing at all times.
