KUANTAN: Mohd Ariff Amri’s first vacation at Fraser’s Hill, Pahang, turned into an unforgettable experience when he was stranded on the road after a landslide at Jalan Bukit Fraser-Raub, near here today.

Ariff, 37, said he and four members of his family were approaching down the road when they encountered several other cars trapped by a landslide in front of them.

“This was the scariest vacation for me. See the landslide before my eyes and get caught in the middle of the hill road. Fortunately, I was able to ask for help, ”he said.

He said there were more than 20 cars trapped, along with three motorcycles. After discussing the situation, they decided to go up Fraser’s Hill before heading down in the direction of Kuala Kubu Bharu, Selangor.

“As we were driving up Fraser’s Hill, another landslide occurred, resulting in my car and nine others being trapped. Although shocked, I am grateful that the landslide did not occur when I was passing, otherwise worse things would have happened.

“We tried to inspect the road to see if we had enough room to pass, but there was none. I sought help from various authorities, including the police and road assistance services, to inform them that we were trapped, ”he said.

Ariff said there were 32 adults and eight children trapped there at the time. He also used his social media accounts to spread news about the incident.

“Alhamdulillah, after two hours of being trapped, roadside assistance services and the police contacted me and informed me that help was on the way. They said the Fraser’s Hill police were heading our way, but that we might have to leave because there was no other way.

“We had to walk for 15 minutes to the other side of the landslide to get back to Fraser’s Hill. That was the only way out and we had to abandon our vehicles, ”he said.

Ariff, who has been at Fraser’s Hill since Friday, hopes Tourism Pahang will help them with their accommodation for tonight, as they had all made no reservations and were concerned that the hotels there would be full.

Landslide cuts Gua Musang highway

A landslide caused the closure of the road between Lojing and Gua Musang, Kelantan, while several roads in Kota Tinggi, Johor, were flooded due to continued rains for the past two days.

The Johor Bahru-Mersing Highway near Ladang Getah Malaysia is only accessible to heavy vehicles, while the Semangar Dalam Highway near Jalan Kota Tinggi-Kulai near the bridge is still accessible to all vehicles.
