KUALA LUMPUR (Bernama): The government is prepared to implement an additional economic stimulus package or other initiatives to help people cope with economic constraints if necessary and if the government’s financial situation allows, says Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.

He said that “taking care of the people” has always been the main guiding principle for him and the Perikatan Nasional (PN) government after receiving the mandate to be the country’s prime minister.

“It is my responsibility to care for people regardless of race, creed and color. This is my highest priority.

“What I have done for the last six months was based on this principle. I have to take care not only of people’s lives, but also their livelihoods,” he said while officiating at the closing of the Mid-Year Convention of the Administration of PN here on Tuesday (Sept. 1).

The convention was organized by the National Organization of Intellectuals and was also attended by the Prime Minister’s Special Ambassador to the Middle East, Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang, who is also the president of PAS and a member of the Marang Parliament.

Muhyiddin said the Bantuan Prihatin Nasional, the loan moratorium, special assistance for small and medium-sized businesses, wage subsidies, discounts on electricity bills and other initiatives under the previously implemented economic stimulus packages were proof of the concern of the government by the people.

He said that when the government took decisive action to enforce the Movement Control Order, almost all economic activities came to a halt, and people were unable to go out to work and run their businesses as usual, which affected their income and means. of life.

Muhyiddin said that as the prime minister responsible for the people, he could not turn a blind eye to the problems.

“In this situation, I cannot let people languish and starve. I have to make sure everyone has a roof over their head and food on the table.

“That’s why I asked the finance minister to find the money. It would break my heart to tell people that the government didn’t have the money to help them when they were going through difficulties. The minister came back and told me we had money.” and I said okay, we will use the money to help ease the burden on the people, “he said.

“That was the money used by the government to provide various forms of assistance to the people through the previous economic stimulus packages totaling RM295bil,” Muhyiddin added.

The Prime Minister also emphasized that the performance of his responsibilities was more important than the position he was in.

“From the moment I took office as Prime Minister, I placed my trust in Allah. For me, my position is not important, but it is how I carry out my responsibilities as a leader. This confidence in leadership is a test for me and I must do the right thing. I can never compromise my principles, “he said. – Bernama
