PETALING JAYA: The government has announced that the Recovery Movement Control Order (RMCO) has been extended from its original deadline of August 31 to December 31 this year.
Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin (pix) He said this is because Covid-19 infection cases continue to rise inside and outside Malaysia in light of the World Health Organization’s estimate that the battle against the virus will take longer than expected.
“Although the spread of Covid-19 infections in Malaysia is still under control, the government still wants to curb the groups that may emerge in this country and prevent community infection,” he said in a televised speech today.
He also said that with the extension, authorities can still take action against offenders under the 1988 Infectious Disease Prevention and Control and ensure that everyone abides by the standard operating procedure that was established by the government.
In line with the extension, it also announced that the government’s Covid-19 Fund would continue to receive donations until December 31.
“Contributions to the fund will be used to help Covid-19 victims and provide the necessary needs to combat the pandemic,” he said.
The fund was created on March 10 to help those who had lost their income or were financially affected by Covid-19.
Muhyiddin also noted that he agrees with the Health Ministry to increase the compound limit to two or three times the current compound limit, which is RM1,000.
“The suggestion of the Ministry of Health to increase the compound has my support, since those who violate the law should be punished appropriately. But first you have to amend the law, “she said.
He also said that the Ministry of Internal Trade and Consumer Affairs is in talks with mask manufacturers to reach a consensus on whether the price of masks can be lowered, as masks should be worn when going to public places around RMCO. .
“This can reduce the burden on people,” he said.
