KUALA LUMPUR: The government appreciated the initiative taken by Top Glove Corporation Bhd to offer more than 9,000 job opportunities for locals in the country, but also reminded the company to also emphasize the safety and well-being of workers, Chief Minister (Safety) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob (pix) said.

More importantly, he said the company must ensure that all of its potential workers undergo the Covid-19 swab test to prevent new cases of infection among them.

“For potential workers who don’t have a place to stay, I hope that they will be provided with suitable accommodation or shelter. We do not want new cases among the workers of the company ”, he told Bernama today.

The company announced today that it will offer more than 9,000 job opportunities to Malaysians this year to help reduce the country’s unemployment gap and meet the growing global demand for gloves and other personal protective equipment.

In a statement, the company said it seeks to achieve the goal by launching a year-long recruitment drive through its first Virtual Career Fair that begins tomorrow.

The target includes 4,000 positions for local workers, 2,300 positions for recent university and technical training graduates, 2,000 interns and apprentices and 700 experienced Malaysian employees.

Before this, Top Glove was involved in the issue of not taking care of the welfare of its workers and the breach of the Minimum Standards of Housing and Services for Workers Act of 1990 (Law 446).

The company also made headlines after becoming Malaysia’s largest Covid-19 cluster, the Teratai Cluster. -Called
