PETALING JAYA: The government has given an exception to allow more than four people in a vehicle during interstate trips from May 7 to 10, says Chief Minister (Security Cluster) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.
He said that while the law during the conditional movement control order (MCO) only allowed four people from the same family to be in a car, Ismail said there was an exception during these four days.
This was as long as transportation laws were not violated during the period, he added.
“Let’s say that in a six-seater car, the police have allowed six people to be in the vehicle during these four days. Since they are a family of six, they cannot leave two people in the kampung. We will allow this, ”he said during an interview with Bernama TV on Thursday (May 7) at night.
However, he said that six people, for example, would not be able to travel in a four-seater car.
“The government realizes that those who have been in kampung for a month have to return. Government offices have reopened. Companies have also reopened and need to work. Then we will allow it, ”Ismail said.
Police have allotted four days for interstate travel so that those stranded in their towns and elsewhere can return to their residences.
This movement also allows parents to pick up their children who had been left behind in their villages.
Interstate movement was banned as the movement control order was enforced on March 18.
Those traveling from Kuala Lumpur would have to travel on May 7, while those from Perak, Johor and Kelantan could do so on May 8.
Those from Perlis, Kedah, Penang, Melaka and Pahang will be able to travel on May 9, while those from Selangor, Negri Sembilan and Terengganu will be able to make their trips on May 10.
