PETALING JAYA: The International Federation of Transport Workers has asked Putrajaya to conduct an investigation to determine the cause of the sinking of the maintenance ship Dayang Topaz in waters off Kuala Baram, Miri, yesterday.

The Department of the Navy said the two deaths involved a Malaysian and another individual who had not yet been identified.
Yesterday, the Maritime Rescue Coordination Center said it received a call at 6.45 am from a Sapura Construction ship that received a distress signal from Dayang Topaz about 7.7 nautical miles from Kuala Baram.
Malaysian Maritime Control Agency CEO Mohd Zubil Mat Som said the Sapura Construction ship was mobilized to identify the location of the sinking ship, with 62 crew members still on board and 125 who had left. boat.
The crew of the ship, owned by DESB Marine Services Sdn Bhd, were rescued.
Preliminary investigations showed that one of the anchors of the Dayang Topaz was cut off due to bad weather conditions, causing the ship to lose control and crash into the Baram B oil platform.
Damage from the collision has yet to be determined, but no marine contamination was detected and the ship was taken to the nearest shipyard for inspection.
