Netflix series Fabulous Lives Of Bollywood Wives delivers exactly what it promises: a sparkling window into the lives of four rich and glamorous women who celebrate their lasting friendships on screen. Bravo could have arrived first with his Real housewives franchise, but the streaming giant’s takeover is the first of its kind in India.
The chemistry between the four women, all married to actors, is palpable. Of the four, Neelam Kothari is arguably the most successful, having enjoyed a long career as a leading man in Bollywood in the 1980s and 1990s.
About 20 years ago, Kothari canceled her acting career. She is now married to actor Samir Soni (Year 2 Student). “Coming back to the screen after so many years, and also with my best friends, has been an exhilarating experience,” says Kothari. Variety.

Kothari made an on-screen couple with actor Chunkey Pandey in movies Aag hello aag (1987), Paap Ki Duniya (1988) and Ghar Ka Chiraag. Pandey’s costume designer wife, Bhavana Pandey, is also one of the stars of the show.
“How many people are lucky enough to do a show with their best friends?” asks Bhavana Pandey. “Well we did it and we enjoyed every minute of it.” The Pandeys’ daughter Ananya is also a Bollywood star (Pati Patni Aur Woh) and appears in the program.
“The four of us have been friends for eons and we really enjoy celebrating that friendship in this series,” says former model Maheep Kapoor, who is married to actor Sanjay.
In the first episode, the Kapoors take their daughter Shanaya, an actress in training, to Paris for the Le Bal des Debutantes dance, where Sanjay is surprised to meet Jet Li and takes a mandatory selfie.
If it all seems very cozy and insular, it is, as the show is produced by Dharmatic Entertainment, highly influential producer and director Karan Johar. Johar, apart from his movies like My name is Khan, is known for getting Bollywood’s top talent on his chat show Koffee with Karan.
But nevertheless,Bollywood Wives it also serves as a stark reminder that just having access and opportunities is no guarantee of success in the industry.
Sanjay Kapoor, for example, was born into Bollywood royalty to his producer brother Boney (Mr india) and actor brother Anil (Slumdog Millionaire) both are A-listers, and he was given a dream cast as a hero in the movie Prem (nineteen ninety five).
