The frequency of train and bus services will be reduced

PETALING JAYA: The frequency of train and bus services throughout the Klang Valley will be reduced from today.

Prasarana Malaysia Bhd COO Datin Norlia Noah said this was in response to a significant drop in the number of travelers using the services last week.

Prasarana operates MRT, LRT and Monorail services, as well as Rapid KL and MRT shuttle bus services.

He said the frequency of trips will only return to normal levels once the conditional motion control order (CMCO), which has been imposed in Selangor, Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya, is lifted.

The government announced last week that all non-essential workers will be required to work from home to help curb the significant increase in the number of new Covid-19 cases.

The reduction in frequency would help mitigate the financial impact that fewer passengers have on the company.

“The LRT, MRT and Monorail services will continue to operate from 6 am to midnight. However, the frequency will change according to time and demand, “he said yesterday in a statement.

Norlia said that train service on all routes in the states under the CMCO will be closely monitored by the Operations Control Center.

“We will add more trains during times when demand is high,” he said.

The same strategy will apply to the RapidKL and Jom Naik MRT shuttle bus services.

“According to our data, the number of passengers during peak hours has decreased. Although the figures during off-peak hours remain the same, they are still very low, ”he added.

The weekend travel schedule will now apply daily for the RapidKL bus service.

“This is a 20% reduction in normal daily service on weekdays,” he said.

The Rapid Bus Operations Control Center will also continue to monitor the situation closely.

“Travelers can check the schedules in the application Google maps / moovit or myrapidbus.prasarana.com.my/kiosk to better plan their trip,” added Norlia.

The company also confirmed that one of its staff members had tested positive for Covid-19 and is now being treated at Sungai Buloh Hospital.
