Former Liverpool youth prospect Michael Ngoo has revealed he suffered physical and mental damage after a poor tackle from Reds star Virgil van Dijk, but has now forgiven the Dutchman.

Ngoo joined Liverpool as a youth in 2009.

He trained with the Reds, but never played a senior minute, before having loan spells at Hearts, Yeovil and Walsall.

He then signed a permanent contract with Kilmarnock in 2014, and was making only his sixth appearance for the Scottish team when he was injured by Van Dijk while playing a match against Celtic.

“Not only was he physically injured, he was also psychologically devastated,” Ngoo said in an interview with Planet Football this month.

“Before my first surgery, the specialist told me that if my rehabilitation did not go according to plan, I would not play professional soccer again.

“He made it clear. I had a really bad time.

“I was stressed and mulling over what I should do because I thought I might not be able to kick a ball again.”

Ngoo said in 2014: “I told our physical therapist right away that Van Dijk had tried to do it with me.

“Before the entrance, a few words were said between us. Then he shot me from behind.”

But Ngoo later forgave the Dutch international, saying: “Van Dijk apologized through John Guidetti, a friend of mine, who was on loan at Celtic at the time.

“The damage was done, but I don’t hold a grudge.”

Ngoo joined Tirana from Albania in 2017 where he made 72 appearances, but left earlier this year to represent Enosis Neon Paralimni in Cyprus.
