PETALING JAYA: There is a “dirty police cartel” in the Malaysian police force and Police Inspector General Abdul Hamid Bador has vowed to get to the bottom of the problem and end the internal rot.

In an interview with Utusan Malaysia, the country’s top police officer said that behind the cartel were mid-level police officers.

Hamid said the cartel would ensure that its collaborators are promoted so that they can dominate their teams and the police hierarchy in the future, making it easier for them to do their “dirty work.”

“I know this is happening, they create networks among themselves. In 10 to 15 years, when they are top officials and have power, they will start doing their dirty work, including collaborating with criminals.

“I take this seriously and I will make sure this stops and does not happen in force. I know there are those who (in force) cannot wait for me to retire. “

Despite this, Hamid said the teamwork in the force was good and he was grateful that members of the public had helped expose the wrongdoings of some police officers.

“I am prepared to hear complaints from the public about any wrongdoing by the police,” he said, adding that he would ensure fair investigations into any complaint and that action will be taken.
