The decision not to fine the FT minister is ‘absolute nonsense’, says a DAP man

Like anyone else, Federal Territories Minister Annuar Musa should also be fined if he has violated SOPs, says Ramkarpal Singh.

PETALING JAYA: Police decision to refer case of alleged violation of Covid-19 Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) by Federal Territories Minister Annuar Musa to Attorney General’s Office is “absolute nonsense,” says one Member of Parliament of the DAP.

Ramkarpal Singh also said the decision not to issue an Annuar compound “smelled of double standards.”

He said that section 25 of the Infectious Disease Prevention and Control Act of 1988 stipulated that any public official could issue a compound of not more than RM 1,000 for offenses provided for in the law.

Thousands of people who have violated SOPs have been addressed in that section, he said, asking: “Why isn’t Annuar offered a compound like the rest?

“Why is the Annuar case different to the point where it has to go all the way to the AG?” Ramkarpal asked in a statement.

“Like any other person, if you violated the SOPs, compose it as you would with others, otherwise, it can be considered that you are practicing double standards in the treatment of politicians and ordinary citizens.”

Earlier today, Kuala Lumpur Police Chief Saiful Azly Kamaruddin said Annuar would not receive a compound for allegedly violating a motion control order (MCO) rule for the time being.

Although a photograph of Annuar with several others at a dining room table had gone viral, Saiful said police were still collecting statements from others to obtain more facts and evidence about the case.

He said it would then be referred to the AGC “for the next course of action,” adding that it wasn’t as easy as “just paying RM1,000 and it’s settled.”

In the photograph widely shared on social media Saturday, Annuar was seen dining at the same table with six other people during a visit to a community center project in Cheras last Friday.

Under MCO regulations, only two people can sit at a table when eating out.
