KUALA LUMPUR: A police officer who was allegedly at the scene of a murder in Jalan Telawi 2, Bangsar on March 13 and who appeared in a viral video was confirmed to be off duty when the incident occurred.

Brickfields District Police Chief ACP Anuar Omar said the 27-year-old inspector from the Kuala Selangor District Police Headquarters Criminal Investigation Department admitted to being at the scene of the incident, but was not carrying firearms because it was out of order.

Based on the interview, the officer said that he had gone from his home in Subang Jaya to Bangsar to have dinner with his friend. During the incident, he was walking with his friend to his car that was parked nearby.

“When he was about to report the incident, he realized that the police vehicles had arrived at the scene and he went home,” he said in a statement today.

Anuar said the incident was also videotaped by a friend of the police officer.

The media had previously reported that an individual, believed to be a police officer who appeared in a viral video, allegedly saw and did not report a fight that occurred around 1 a.m. that resulted in one death and another person seriously wound.

A 26-year-old local man was arrested today in Batu Caves, Selayang, to facilitate the investigation of the case, and police are still tracking several suspects who remain at large. Called
